INTERNATIONAL HELICONIA COFERENCE

In mid-2006, Darwin hosted the Heliconia Society International conference. The event was highly successful, gathering growers and enthusiasts from around the world.

INDUSTRY BENCHMARKS

In May and June 2005, some members of the group got together to develop Industry benchmarks for cut flower businesses. Two workshops were held where confidential financial details were anonymously supplied and analysed for the likes of ‘cost of production’, ‘turnover’ and ‘hourly rates’. The workshops were highly regarded by all involved and has set the scene for a greater evaluation of the cut flower industry.

NEW CURCUMA HYBRID FIELD DAY

In April 2005, a field day was held at Berrimah farm for a brief assessment of the Curcuma breeding program. It was a delight to see so many new varieties in their initial stages of assessment.

LOCAL SHOWS

Two displays have been presented in 2005, at the Freds Pass Rural Show (for photo see the NT Horticulturalist Magazine) and the Royal Darwin Show. The Royal Darwin Show display won Best Industry Display. Thanks to all who provided flowers and effort.
